Summer Romp

Romper - Gifted, Sunnies - FrockCandy

The temperatures around here reached scorching proportions over the last couple of weeks, and even though my body wasn't ready for the sudden heat, inside I was cheering because it feels like summer is here at last. Summers in my neck of the woods mean that it stays light out until 8 p.m., the weather remains at a balmy 75 to 80 degrees until 10 p.m., backyard barbecues happen nearly every weekend, cool summer cocktails are a must, and you can spend late nights at the drive-in with the windows rolled down so you can breathe in the scent of fresh buttered popcorn. Summers to me also mean rompers, rompers, rompers. This gorgeous colored romper (that I got as a birthday gift last year) is the perfect outfit to keep me cool and comfortable but still looking put together this summer. I rocked it here with some silver jewelry and neutral wedges, but I could have dressed it down with some leather bracelets and some gladiator sandals. If you're a curvy girl, rompers are a GREAT way to hide a little tummy because it hugs your body in the most flattering places. See more short romper examples
here and here.

This will be my LAST outfit post featuring my long, long hair. As you heard here, I chopped my hair off this past week on a whim, and I'm excited to debut it on the blog next week with some fresh new outfits. It's amazing how changing your hair length can instantly change the look of an outfit. I've been experimenting with different looks and can't wait to share them with you! Have a great weekend!

Minty Mustard

Top - F21, Pants - Urban Outfitters, Shoes - Lucky @ ModCloth, Watch - FrockCandy, Necklace - Gifted
Yup. The mint is back. I told you here that mint is my new go-to color because it seems to complement every color I've got in my closet. I was inspired by this pin to try rocking mint with mustard, and ta-DA! I loved the results. There's something about the mustard that makes the mint pop, and there's something about the mint that makes the mustard look richer and more vibrant. Magic!

It's funny that this combination looks so good together because mint and mustard would be really gross together on food. So I guess that's today's fashion lesson, guys. Gross in body = great on body. My work as a fashion blogger here is done. Let's go grab some hot dogs. Am I the only one who craves hot dogs when I look at my pants? Fine. I stand alone.

Windy City

Dress - F21, Necklace - Banana Republic, Shoes - Lucky @ ModCloth, Clutch - Vintage
So if you follow me on Instagram, you got a little preview of the fact that I chopped off my HAIR! Dun dun DUN. Don't you think that just called for a "Dun Dun DUN"? Anyway, yes, I did it. On a whim. With very little thought. Which is how I do a lot of things, unfortunately. I actually love it. It's very flouncy, and I love a good flounce. But to build up the suspense, and to give my long curls a proper goodbye, I'll be posting pre-haircut pics this week and debuting the new do next week. I know...the suspense is killing you, isn't it?? Haha, OK, probably not, but I'm going to pretend like you're excited.

Welcome to pics of my new favorite maxi dress. And hallelujah that for the first time in a year and a half, the wind was actually working WITH my photos instead of against them. I just LOVE how wispy and romantic and sweet this minty green chiffon number is. (Although, please forgive the wrinkles. It was new, I was running late, I couldn't find the steamer...and the rest is wrinkled history). I wore it to see Wicked for the third time. I told you here that going to the theeeahhter (yes, you have to pronounce it that way) makes me want to get a little dressed up, and this maxi was the perfect choice. I went simple with gold chains and neutral heels, but I can see myself dressing this number up by adding stilettos and a bling bib necklace or down by throwing on sandals and a jean jacket. Maxi dresses have really become my go-to outfit this spring/summer...and one in a fun, pastel color is a perfect way to rock the pastel trend this season.

Onesie

Romper, Belt - F21, Sandals - Aeropostale, Watch - Frock Candy
I would like to go on record as saying that there are few things more comfortable to wear than a loose romper like this one. Or as I like to call it, an adult onesie. I mean, there is a reason why we put little toddlers who sleep all day in onesies. They are basically pajamas that you can wear out. Can you think of anything more genius? The great part is, if you get it in a sophisticated color (basic black being easiest) and throw on a few accessories, you can still look extremely chic, and no one will be the wiser that you're walking around in a pajama onesie.

You've seen me rock this particular one HERE and HERE. I opted for a more casual look this time, with a loose skinny belt hung on the hips of the romper, instead of around the waist. The result was that I was extremely comfy but got tons of compliments on the look. I also fell asleep a lot because my body thought I was wearing pajamas, but it was cool.

Cabo Colorblock

Tank - Marshall's, Shorts - Old Navy, Hat - Street Vendor, Sandals - Aeropostale
I told you that I could not get away from bright colorblocking when I was in Mexico, and as you can see from my photos below of the local "color" of Cabo, bright colors seems to be sort of a part of Mexican culture, so I blended right in. I love the way magenta plays off yellow (got the idea from one of my fave bloggers, Kendi), and wearing this outfit just made me feel like I was on vacation even before I stepped outside. Sorry I couldn't get the wind to stop blowing long enough to get you a good photo of the tank top's ruffles. Controlling the weather is one of my lifelong dreams, but alas, I'm not there yet. I also couldn't wait to chow down on some delicious breakfast burritos (see below), drink my morning coffee with my bare toes in the sand while I stared at the ocean (see below), and ride of water taxi of death out to cruise around the famous "arch" that defines Cabo San Lucas (see below), so we were a bit rushed taking these photos.

This marks my last Cabo post before we return to regularly scheduled programming, so I hope you enjoy!

Pink Kitty

Top - F21, Skirt - LC, Necklace - ModCloth, Sandals - Aerpostale
Something about being on vacation in Mexico just made me want to dress in bright colors every day, so my colorblocking skills really got quite the workout while I was there. I discovered that the color mint pretty much goes with EVERYTHING and serves to make the corresponding color pop, so it's now my favorite color for the summer season. I encourage you to buy a mint top if you don't have one already. It goes with coral, red, hot pink, cobalt blue, even mustard. I already know I'm going to be pairing this tank with all sorts of fun colored bottoms for the next few months, so I hope you get used to seeing this top over and over. And over. Seriously.

I had meant to rock this skirt (last seen HERE) with some fun heels, but once I realized how much walking I had to do in Cabo just to get to dinner, I opted for flat sandals instead. This photo was taken after a day of beaching it in a private cabana all day, where we were showered with butler service and massages which felt so decadent and luxurious, and we finished the night off with some delicious Mexican fare, drinks, and dancing at the Pink Kitty. Yes. It was called the Pink Kitty, I am not making that up.

The cabana...
This cabana was so comfortable (equipped with a memory foam mattress and soft pillows).

We would watch a beautiful wedding happen right in front of us later this day.

And the food, of course....

SUCH delicious guacamole. I must have ingested about a gallon of guacamole during my stay in Cabo.

Fresh ceviche with shrimp.

Yellowtail sashimi with strawberries and habanero chilis.

Fresh mahi mahi with a cilantro cream glaze.
