Hot Pants

Top, Pants, Booties - Urban Outfitters, Necklace - F21, Bracelets & Watch - Vintage
There are so many things about this outfit that made me feel like I had stepped a bit out of my comfort zone when I wore it. First of all, it's pants, and I am such a skirt and dress girl. Second, it's high-waisted pants, something that breaks pretty much every rule for flattering clothing that is out there for the petite curvy girl. Third, the pants are mustard yellow, which are obviously a bit attention-getting. And fourth, Boyfriend offered up the oh, so helpful comment of, "Those pants are kind of weird" when I bought them. Although I often discount what Boyfriend says when it comes to my clothes. As my favorite vintage shop owner put it when Boyfriend told me my gorgeous teal vintage secretary dress was "grandmotherly", "Boys are dumb!"

Anyway, despite all these obstacles, I totally LOVED this look! I loved how it was a bit of a departure from my usual wear, and I loved how it felt so chic and, yet, appropriately casual for brunch with friends. And even though the pants are mustard yellow, I see a lot of possibilities for remixing them with other pieces or with other colors, like bright blue or navy. Just goes to show what fabulous things can happen when you are brave enough to step out of your comfort zone. Or when you ignore your boyfriend. I am very good at doing one of these things already. Yay, me.
