Highlights

Top - F21, Tank - Gifted, Sandals - Aeropostale, Bangle - CostPlus World Market
At least a couple of times a year, my friends and I like to take a drive up to Point Reyes (north of San Francisco) where they have a number of oyster farms right on the water. I blogged about it last year after one of our trips. We buy these delicious fresh oysters that we shuck ourselves (i.e. I make other people shuck for me) and bring our own barbecue, fruit, drinks, and snacks and we have a little picnic on the beach. I look forward to it every year, and despite the long and windy drive it takes to get there, I leave the picnic grounds already counting down the days until I can go back. It's one of the things that makes me so thankful to live in California. That, and the fact that I can rock flip flops pretty much almost all year round.

I couldn't resist sporting another neon look for my day at the beach. I can NOT get enough of neon these days! There's just something about looking like a highlighter that makes me smile. Hope you all enjoyed your Memorial Day Weekend!

And here comes the food...

My genius idea to use peach juice and champagne to make super easy bellinis!

Our oyster haul.

Perfectly shucked, perfectly delicious.

Tropical Blue

Top - Vintage, Shorts - F21, Shoes - Zara
What is it about wearing free shoes that makes them just all the cuter? These are the pair of shoes that Boyfriend got me after I begged for them mentioned I wanted them. I love how they are a basic black heeled sandal, and yet there is so much about them that keeps them from being basic. That must be why I. Can't. Stop. Wearing. Them. They go with pants, shorts, skirts, jeans...as you will soon see. Muhahahaha. You have been warned!

By the way, I have been digging this tropical blue color. In case you're wondering, I have no idea where I came up with the term "tropical blue," but I like it, and I'm sticking with it. Come on, it's not like "Caribbean Green" meant anything before Crayola slapped it on a crayon wrapper, so I think I'm allowed to make up colors now too. Spread it around, people. Tropical Blue can be my legacy if you help me.

Happy Hump Day!

Pow!

Shirt - Chantell on Melrose, Shoes - Zara, Watch - FrockCandy
A thousand apologies for being a bad blogger this week. Work has been keeping me jumping, which is actually not easy to do in boring, binding corporate clothes. But nothing serves to make a harrowing work week a little better than a pair of some kickass amazing heels, and these Zara heels totally fit the bill. Aren't they amazeballs? I love the colorblocking, the muted orange color, the sexy heel, and the delicate ankle straps. And yes, I have the same ones in black, but they are totally different. No, really...they are!

I know it would be a no-brainer to rock these heels with a sleek skirt or dress, but I wanted to see what it could do for a basically plain, otherwise casual look. I was not disappointed. It adds such POW to this fairly boring outfit, doesn't it? I wish I could put little "Pow!" "Krunch!" "Bam!" comicbook conversation bubbles on these pictures like they used to have on the old, old Batman television series. Because in these heels, I could definitely kick some henchmen booty.

Have a great weekend, peeps! XO

The Previews

So sorry that I have been MIA, but work has been killing me and forcing me to be totally off the grid. I promise to be back tomorrow! I don't know about you guys, but I LOVE the previews at the movie theater as much as the movie itself, so here is a little preview of the posts that are going to come in the next few days.

I have been lusting after these two pairs of shoes for months and months, but with no Zara available in my little town and it being completely sold out online, I was left cold and shoeless. OK, you know that's a lie. I have a lot of shoes. But my feet really wanted THESE. So when they came back in stock, I was ecstatic. I felt a little guilty about ordering two pairs of shoes that were basically the same except in color, but luckily the Boyfriend was guilted into buying bought me a pair and I bought the other. He refused to buy the orange ones because he said they were "weird," but we all know boys are dumb. The orange ones are my fave.

Will be posting posts soon of both of these gorgeous shoes, so stay tuned!

My Word

Tank - ?, Skirt - LC, Shoes - F21, Cuff - ModCloth
I said back here that I was dying for a coral red high-low skirt, and I am nothing if not a woman of my word. I am also a shopaholic and skirt hoarder, but let's focus on the woman of my word part. I love this skirt! It's texture and cut make it seem so fancy and all, but the color is bright enough for casual day-wear. I see myself pairing it will sorts of colors and textures this summer. It's super comfy too, so I might sleep in it. Not really. But maybe.

I know that the high-low trend is a bit all over the place these days, but I think that buying the trend in strong basics, like this coral skirt and this black one (told you I was a skirt hoarder) will keep you from looking too trendy. Because we all know that there is a difference between trying a trend and being trendy. We do, right? It's a lesson I learned the hard way after my feet could barely breathe under the three pairs of colored slouchy socks I was wearing. In the summer. In my teeny tiny Keds.

Heading down to LA this weekend to show my momma some serious love for Mother's Day. I have told my mother I am completely at her disposal for the next two days, so I have no plans to do anything but take my mom out and about on the town and spend some quality mother-daughter time with one of my true heroes. I love you, Mom! Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there...have a great weekend!

Spring Into Mint

Top - H&M (old), Skirt - F21, Earrings - Jewelry Designer
Now that spring is here, I seem to be ready to jump onto the mint-colored trend that is just popping up everywhere. There's something so very refreshing and sweet about it, and it probably helps that it makes me think immediately about mint chip ice cream (one of my faves). Yep, any clothing or body product that makes me think of dessert will grab my attention. Call a color mint or toffee or mocha or red velvet, and it will be so much more appealing to me than green, brown, or red. I'm such a sucker for clever marketing. If you can sneak the word "cupcake" or "whipped cream" into the description of anything (body wash, clothes, perfume), it will be coming home with me. Well played, advertising world. Well played.

Never Never Land

Top - Forever 21, Watch - FrockCandy
There is something that I just adore about a Peter Pan collar. Maybe it's because it's so dainty and feminine, or because it's so vintage and yet timeless, or maybe it's because it's named after a fictional character that sort of embodies my own personal disposition of never wanting to grow up. It's kind of funny that this is named a Peter Pan collar, by the way, because I have never seen Peter Pan actually wear a collar like this. Anyway, I love this collar, whether it's in tank tops, shirts, or dresses. Since the blush color and the sheer fabric make this top so amazingly girly, I thought I'd tone it down a bit with some simple dark skinnies and platform pumps.  I can also see myself wearing this shirt with a short pleated skirt and mary janes to play up the girly look or with a simple pencil skirt and pumps for work.

Versatility in my clothing is a new quality that I have found myself searching for more and more. I used to just see something I thought was cute and then buy it because I wanted it. Now, I think to myself, "Where would I wear this? How would I wear this? Could I wear it more than once every couple of months?" I'd like to think that this new way of thinking is a sign of maturity and growth as a shopper, but in actuality it's probably because my closet is literally bursting at the seams. I need to start shopping smarter if I want  to have room for...you know, more clothes. Viva la Peter Pan!
