Pearly Whites

We ended up seeing a Broadway show in NYC (an item on my bucket list) one of the nights we were there. I hadn't heard much about "Memphis," except that it won the Tony Award in 2010 but was blown away by how fantastic it was. As I've mentioned before HERE, going to the theater always gives me the uncontrollable urge to dress up a bit. Since it was Broadway after all, I decided to go very old New York with a simple black dress and pearls. Pearls always make me feel so glamorous for some reason, and this multi-strand of pearls instantly makes me feel a little like Holly Go-Lightly. I need a giant black hat and a cigarette holder, of course, to complete the look. And about eight inches of height. And the ability to lose about 100 pounds. But you get the idea.

Sorry these photos are so blurry. I rarely take night photos exactly for that reason, but I tried to find a well-lit spot to capture the outfit. The well-lit spot I ended up finding was the hallway outside of the business center, barber shop, and beauty salon of my hotel, so I got a lot of funny looks and stares from the people inside. I told myself that they were admiring my outfit. Yes, I lie to myself sometimes, and that's OK.

Classic Combo

There is something about the blazer and jeans combo that keeps it from ever going out of style. I swear, I remember even Jesse Spano wearing skintight acid-washed (ew) jeans with navy blazer in many an episode of Saved by the Bell. Not that she was my SBTB fashion icon. I much preferred Kelly Kapowski, with her floral shorts and florescent pink tee shirts knotted at the waist. And could Kelly rock a bright colored scrunchie or what? But I digress...in a most embarassing way. While I'm glad that the acid-washed jeans trend might have fallen off along the way (and full disclosure here, I owned my fair share of acid-washed jeans in elementary school and middle school), I'm glad that blazer-jeans-combo trend isn't going anywhere. There's just something so simple and classic about it.

A nice, black blazer is another piece that I think every girl ought to have in her closet. It's just so versatile and necessary. It can be thrown on over a loose tee and jeans or over a dress and it instantly makes the outfit look polished.

I love three-day weekends, but my next week is always thrown off by being so short. I can't believe I'm leaving for my mini-vacay to NYC the day after tomorrow, and I have not even begun thinking about what to pack! Luckily, NYC has warmed up to a balmy 41 degrees for my trip (*gulp*). I am trying to brainstorm ideas for outfits that are cute but warm and go with comfortable walking shoes (what's that?). It's like Mission Impossible, isn't it?? If you have any tips....please, pass them along!

At First Blush

"Blush" is one of my absolute favorite colors for clothing. It's just brilliant. It's not pink, it's not beige, it's not peach, it's not taupe. Who would have thought that a combination of those colors would make such a pretty hue? I find myself drawn to so much blush-colored clothing these days, but this skirt is my favorite. It's got such a silky feel, and its contrasting thick black waistband is like a built in belt. Plus, blush is a great winter color as well as a spring color, so you'll see this skirt remixed often in the coming months!

I wore this to a baby shower where we knew the baby was going to be a girl. Baby showers always make me want to dress a little girly (especially ones for little baby girls!), and the pale blush skirt and booties covered with bows helped me get the job done.

So, what do you think of the outfit? What's that? Really? You love it? Aw, don't make me blush.

Yes, I kind of hate myself right now for making that awful joke. I'm sorry, it's late and I am clearly sleep-deprived. And humor-deprived. I will now go get some sleep. I can not promise I will get some humor, but I will do my best, I promise!

Museum Date

 The boyfriend took me on a bona fide date over the weekend to celebrate both of us feeling better after battling yucky, sniffly, coughy colds all week. Yay! To top it off, the date was a Me Date, not a He Date. Not familiar with the difference? Allow me to illustrate. Fancy dinner at a much-acclaimed restaurant with wine, followed by something yummy and chocolatey, and most importantly accompanied by deep and meaningful conversation = Me Date. Sushi at the same sushi restaurant we go to once-a-week, followed by bowling and beer, with conversation limited to trash talking and bowling lingo = He Date. Most of our dates fall somewhere in between these two, but I'll put this past weekend's in the Me Date column (it makes me feel like I'm winning). Our date included a delicious lunch at a brand new cafe that I'd been wanting to try and checking out the new exhibits at an art museum.

Shirt/tunic dresses are one of my fave wardrobe choices for the curvy girl. They cover the booty and give you some structure, plus you can wear them a bunch of different ways. I decided to wear leggings for warmth and comfort and then opted for my other peep toe booties (I mentioned here how I got them for such a steal!).

I was running out the door when I decided to grab a coat (thank God I did since it was deceptively cold outside).  Without much thought, I grabbed my wool camel coat, one of my absolute faves. Not only did my Dad take me to the store, pick it out and buy it for me for Christmas two years ago (my father NEVER takes me shopping, so it was really cute),  it also practically goes with everything. It's definitely a good thing to invest in, if you're looking for a new winter coat. In fact, I think every girl only needs (and should have) coats in black, gray, and camel. Those three colors will cover you in all situations.

So why do I also own coats in plum, green, khaki, brown, cream, and red? Um, don't ask me such questions. Don't you see what the name of my blog is?!
